It’s time for tea. . . and a new update!

Elizabeth’s family in Oklahoma is one of our reliable annual entries. It’s so fun when families celebrate Emilie together!

Family Tea in Oklahoma

“We were not able to celebrate until today. Our small group consisted of my Mom, sister Beverly, my husband and myself.

 
We had ham sandwiches, vegetable tray of tomatoes, carrot sticks and celery sticks with garden veggie cream cheese. We also had Kerrygold reserve white cheddar slices with wheat crackers. Our desserts were chocolates, mini apple croissants, and fall shortbread cookies. Our tea was from Plum Deluxe- one of their new blends called Strawberry Shortcake black – this is a delicious blend!!

 
We each picked out a book- Mom chose Give Me One Summer, the first Emilie book she ever read as a teenager. My sister Beverly chose her (and mine) favorite Forever & A Day. I am reading A Certain Crossroad.

Patti’s Blue Hill Tea

I made it to Blue Hill right on time and scurried to get tea ready to both photograph and enjoy. You may recognize the view, overlooking Blue Hill Bay.

I have my “reading copy” of Happy Landings with me. It’s a less precious paperback supplied by the publisher (not for sale, sorry) that is nice for travel.

The artwork is from my favorite store in Portland, Abacus. The artist is Dana Heacock, and I had to have this new print, because it reminds me of afternoons sailing in Blue Hill with Captain Bob Slaven. The little plate celebrated Blue Hill’s bicentennial, and the striped cloth that is now a regular in my travel kit was woven right here in Blue Hill.

After four days of driving, I enjoyed slowing down to sip tea, look out over Blue Hill Bay, and listen to the waves splashing up against the shore. It’s only 66 degrees here this afternoon, so my cup of hot “Paris” tea from Harney’s was a comfort. The pastries were hard little disappointments, but I’d been eating travel snacks all day, so that was okay. I came for the tea and had two cups!

Kids’ Breakfast Tea

My grandchildren, Molly and Ryan, sent in the first entry, because theirs was a breakfast “tea.” They had mini pancakes, apple slices, and fresh-squeezed orange juice served on Molly’s tiny tea set that was a gift to her mother from Great-great-Aunt Betty. Birthday balloon napkins and a copy of Happy Landings celebrate Emilie’s 160th.

High Tea at Barbara’s

“My friend Kathy and I had high tea! She made the best homemade scones you can imagine. I provided the silver, china, napkins, and (gasp) pre-made brownie bites and butter cookies. I did cut the sandwich bread, but I used some delicious local chicken salad & pimento cheese.

All this to say — I know why Emilie Loring’s families had servants (though I am fully aware that a nice cup of tea would have sufficed!)”

Lovely. Kathy may need to share her recipe. I’m always on the lookout for the next best scone recipe!

Lyndsey’s Peaceful Tea

“It is with a cup of Paris tea that I honor Emilie The weather is a perfectly fitting gloomy day, as I know so many days in Maine tend to be. Reading a chapter to Patti’s book, with soft music playing in the background. It is an honor to read about a woman who had such an impact on so many lives, made even better by sweet word and sweet tea.

Those are such good muffins! And guess what I just bought! Fresh, wild Maine blueberries! Luckily, I have the Jordan Marsh recipe handy. First, though, the blueberries will have to survive my casual snacking. 😀

A Southwestern Tea

Pat celebrated at our Colorado home where we have a waterfall that makes the most wonderful sounds.

“For Emilie’s birthday, I set up outside by the falls, but it was so hot that hot tea wasn’t very appealing. But I furnished two cups just in case. The snacks were mostly non traditional, but I made some salsa from the ingredients pictured on the cutting board. Yum!”
