    1. Thank you. I just wish I could find more of her older readers who may have looked her up long ago and have no idea that the rest of us are here, that Emilie’s biography is available.

  1. Thank you for posting a video of your presentation! I will look for an hour to sit and watch. I just finished my 2nd reading of your book. I read it quickly I think when I first got it in February. Then so many things happened. The 2nd reading was not boring or stale. It was a fresh and there were still new things to learn and focus on. One thing that jumps out to me is dearth of personal communications (letters) between Emilie Loring and her friends and family, where we might see her/others express feelings about people/situations in their lives, etc. I take it that we rely on her books for a written record of her thoughts/feelings about people, events in her life and the world, even those that occurred before she began her writing. career.

    1. I quoted several letters between her and Clara, her and Linda. These survived because Clara and Linda saved them. Emilie’s family had the habit of burning letters at a person’s death, and she apparently kept no diary. In addition to her prose, there are many radio and newspaper interviews in which she shares about herself. As I visit with other biographers, I place the amount of material I had to work with in the middle of the pack—SO much about her writing and writing process, spare but telling commentary on relationships.

      1. Hi Patti,

Thanks for your quick response and the information. Interesting that Emilie’s family burned letters. That’s too bad. It would be interesting to read a love note from Victor to Emilie during courtship or after 10, 20, etc years of marriage. Or a postcard from her trips to Europe, Alaska, or DC. (But we see that reflected in her novels as you show.) You were able to quote some letters from her son and grandson. Yes, there seems to be much, much more documentation about her writing and process but not as much about family relationships or specific life events coming from what historians call “primary documents” such as letters or journals. I am glad you were able to learn as much as you did about her life before her writing career began.

        Happy Landings!

  2. Patti, can I actually view the presentation here? If so, I need some advice on how to see it! If not, time to see if you’re coming close to Minneapolis and find a library to share Emilie Loring!

  3. Another fabulous presentation I am sure. I like the way you entice your audience and make them anxious to learn more about Emilie Loring. You have captured my senses with your writing and photos. I already liked her and now more than ever; such a breathe of fresh air as compared to todays writings. I am old school and love it. Love and Congrats, Raqui
