You are cordially invited to an “Emilie Loring Tea”
on Saturday, June 30, 2018
at 4:00 p.m. in your time zone
How:
Enjoy your tea any way that you like. Last year, we shared garden teas, picnic teas, heirloom teas, and tea in take-out cups! (See our photo collection here!)
How is it an “Emilie Loring” tea? That is for you to decide. Simply having afternoon tea makes the connection; Emilie loved to host afternoon teas!
“If this house were to float down river in a flood your mother would manage a tea party on the roof.” As Long As I Live
If you’re inspired to recreate a tea scene from one of her books–or the tea scene from Alice in Wonderland, which she loved!–we’d love to see it. Be creative. Our friend Ellen invited a large party to enjoy her wonderfully-detailed, Emilie Loring garden and even had a guest dress as Emilie Loring and read from one of her books. (See the Emilie Loring garden here.)
In Emilie’s time, there were tennis teas, croquet teas, shipboard teas, and of course, drawing room teas. Find tips for preparing a tea in last year’s announcement, here.
When:
Our official tea time is 4:00 p.m., wherever you live. Last year, our friends in England were first with their photos. If you need to have your tea a little earlier, no problem. (It is the season of Saturday weddings, after all!) Send us your photos on the day, and nobody will be the wiser. 😉
Send photos:
I will open a blog post that morning and update it throughout that day and the next with your photos (send to me at contact@pattibender.com).
Have fun!
I can’t wait to see what you will do with this idea! (I can’t wait to see what I will do with it–oh, the weeds in my garden at present!) However you choose to participate where you are, please enjoy a virtual tea here with interesting stories and conversations all day long!
Captain Robert Slaven, US Navy (retired) and Mrs Linda Slaven accept with pleasure the kind invitation of Doctor Patti Bender to the second annual Emilie Loring memorial tea and polka party at four o’clock on 30 June 2018.

I will indeed be at a wedding that day, but I’ll do my best. What a fun. Idea!

Excellent! I have a wedding the previous weekend, so I understand. Sneak a tea in sometime in the days beforehand, and go ahead and send me your photos, so you don’t have to worry about them when you’re getting all dolled up for the event!
